LLG Wednesday Webinar- Climate Change and Sustainability 12pm 22nd September 2021

Publish date: 17/09/2021

This is the first in a series of climate change webinars, providing an introduction to sustainability and net zero aimed specifically at lawyers. John Palmer from Shoosmiths discusses what changes we are currently seeing and what we can expect to see in the future in terms of development, as cities and the regions find themselves competing globally to deliver sustainable platforms to attract investment, jobs and businesses.

In order to get to the 1.5C warming scenario by 2050 (being the goal set out in the Paris Agreement) global emissions will need to be reduced by 6% per year over the next couple of decades. That drop in emissions is the equivalent to a COVID type disruption event each year for the next 20 years!

For cities and the region,s the changes needed are drastic and will not only impact what, how and where we develop, but also how every business operates. If your local authority has declared a climate emergency, you need to know what meeting those goals means in practice for the local community and the economy in which you work.
